Manifesto Implementation Planning

Objective

Transform your newly created design manifesto from a document into a living tool that guides daily work and decision-making.

Time Breakdown

  • 5 minutes: Introduction and setup

  • 15 minutes: Implementation planning in small groups

  • 10 minutes: Share plans and consolidate

Materials Needed

  • Printed copies of the final manifesto

  • Implementation planning worksheets

  • Sticky notes (3 colors)

  • Markers

  • Timer

Exercise Steps

01 Introduction (5 minutes)

  1. Review the finalized manifesto statements

  2. Explain the importance of intentional implementation

  3. Form groups of 3-4 people with mixed roles

02 Implementation Planning (15 minutes)

Each group completes these sections on their worksheet:

  1. Visibility Planning (5 minutes)

    • Where and how will the manifesto be displayed?

    • What formats will make it most accessible? (Digital, printed, etc.)

    • Who needs to see it most frequently?

  2. Decision Integration (5 minutes)

    • Identify 3 upcoming projects where the manifesto should guide decisions

    • Note specific decision points where the team should reference the manifesto

    • Create a simple checklist for design reviews based on the manifesto

  3. Socialization Strategy (5 minutes)

    • List key stakeholders who should understand the manifesto

    • Plan a brief presentation format for sharing with wider teams

    • Identify "manifesto champions" to model and advocate for the principles

03 Share and Consolidate (10 minutes)

  • Each group presents their top implementation idea (1 minute each)

  • Collectively decide on immediate action items

  • Assign owners and deadlines for next steps

  • Schedule a check-in to assess adoption (typically 4-6 weeks later)

Output

A concise implementation plan with:

  • Visibility tactics

  • Decision integration points

  • Communication strategy

  • Clear responsibilities and timeline

This exercise ensures your manifesto becomes a practical tool rather than just a document, driving consistent design decisions aligned with your team's core values.
